Peek Into My Bathroom

vanessa evigan

I'm so excited to show you some of my new skin tricks I have discovered over the last month. Being pregnant, I have been spending time finding products that are not only soothing for my skin but safe for my baby. I haven't gone completely organic and chemical free, but I am close. My doctor has mentioned to me that as long as I'm not eating it, I'm okay to use most products on my skin but I would rather be safe than sorry and go as natural as I can. Tonight I'm going to be posting about the products I have found for my growing tummy, my lips, and my face. I don't post about a product unless I have been using it for at least two weeks or longer. That way I can give you a true report on how my skin reacted to the products!!! Hope this will help you if you are on the hunt.

Been Too Long

vanessa evigan

Hi friends! It really has been too long. I feel as if I have let you down, maybe I have just let myself down. I started this blog to share fashion, beauty, and lifestyle ideas and tips with you, but lately I have been checked out. My last post back before Christmas, I promised for some exciting things to come and then days later found out I was pregnant. The news consumed me. Our pregnancy news came as a huge surprise. We had just come home from our honeymoon and I was ready to get back to life and sharing more fun lines and products I had discovered that I was so excited to share with you. Then when I found out I was pregnant, I was all consumed and almost couldn't get off the couch for the first two months. I can't even remember what I wanted to share back then! I had no motivation and felt almost a sense of depressed, lets not lie, I was really depressed. These feelings were hard for me to come to terms with because of course I was beyond thrilled I was pregnant, I was also scared to death and didn't think I was ready. When are you ever really "ready"? I think you become ready the day the baby comes and you become a parent but I'm not there yet so I really don't know. The feelings of depression and having no motivation to share anything or write, made me feel even more depressed. I didn't want to share my thoughts and what I was going through with anyone because I didn't want to seem ungrateful for this incredible miracle gift from God. But the feelings were real. Now that I have my energy back and the depression has lifted, I felt like sharing my experience. I wasn't sure what these feelings were until I finally shared with some other woman who experienced very similar symptoms their first trimester. They said this is so normal and they could relate. Nothing better than when someone relates to you when you are in a place of fear and thinking you will be judged. A wise woman said something to me that hit me so hard, she said "you're mourning right now" "mourning?" I said. "Yes, you are in a state of mourning, you are mourning the life you have lived, it really is like a death, the death of the way you were and now you are getting ready for a totally new and wonderful season that will look very different from what you have been living, and let me tell you it's magical and all worth it." She was right! I was totally mourning. That is what it felt like and I couldn't really put words to the feeling until I heard this. Mourning is so depressing too! I was spending so much time on Instagram looking at young beautiful girls in these cute outfits and traveling the world and drinking wonderful wine (as silly as this all may sound it's the darn truth) I was feeling this weird jealousy of these girls, who by the way are probably half my age anyway so probably the wrong gals to be admiring! It was like I was saying bye for now to this body, the crazy travel, my lifestyle I had been living, my favorite wine :) and beginning to think of what life will be like with a child. I will forever have this amazing beautiful life to care for and that scares me. Will I be good enough? Will I be a good enough wife after the baby is here? Will I still be able to travel and take our son with us and show him this amazing world? Will I be judged for doing it our way and not the way everyone else wants us to do it? All very real fears. I am now in a new season of life, dealing with a whole new set of fears from what I previously had. Many of which have stayed, but some that have dissipated thank God! I'll share one last thing with you because this is me being as vulnerable as it gets. My eating disorder has been dormant for some time now prior to finding out about our baby but I'll tell you that beast has come back in full effect. I have been struggling with the weight gain. I am making sure I am properly nurturing my baby because I could never be so selfish to make an unborn child suffer because of my disease. It is however on my mind daily, what my body looks like and what it will look like after birth. Then I go down a rabbit hole thinking how pathetic of me to even think about me and my weight when I am caring for another human that has no control of anything right now! Who is relying on me to survive! For today, I am just thankful that we are both healthy and I'm trying my hardest to embrace my new body and my new life and counting my blessings daily for where I am and how far I have come on my journey through this life. Thank you for letting me share this. I promise to share more fun style tips and products once I get all my ducks in a line! Let me tell you I have found some AMAZING new products in my spare time too and I will share them soon!!!!

Beauty Stocking Stuffer Ideas

vanessa evigan

It's the weekend and the holidays are here. If you are out doing some holiday shopping this weekend and at a loss of what to get your girlfriends, sisters, daughters, wife, if you're a man and like to wear makeup.... I have a few of my favorite finds that I think make great gifts and wonderful stocking suffers. I have used all of these. Actually I am currently using all of these.

Let me start with the incredible Lash Boost. I had false lashes recently taken off and was sad at how short my lashes were. I am on week 3 of the Lash Boost and my lashes are really starting to grow. Give it 6 weeks to see the lashes really get where you want them. This may be a little bit of a splurge, but it's a great gift and doesn't effect the color of your eyes like other lash boosters. My skin is sensitive and I have had no reaction to this at all! Click the box below to order Lash Boost!!

The Naked Eye Shadow palette by Urban Decay is my favorite palette I have ever found ! Not only do you get 12 incredible shades that all blend so beautifully together, the palette has a built in mirror and double sided eye shadow brush. This is a steal. I am in love with it and it's a perfect size for travel. You won't need any of your other shadows with this. I use the dark shadow as my eyeliner too! The colors are a mix of matte, satin, shimmer, and sparkle. For $54 bucks, this pallet seems like one of the better deals I have found in my hunt for a new shadow palette. Visit Sephora to snag one of these. I will probably be giving these away to all my gals who love natural fun makeup!

The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette is so awesome. There are three shades for different types of highlighting. I have been using the golden color lightly brushed all over my face for an all over glow and loving it. My skin breaks out very easy and this product hasn't broken me out so it's a keeper. What a cute little stocking stuffer this will make for $42 bucks! Visit Sephora for this palette.

Last but certainly not least...... Amazing eye concealer. I get bored real easy with makeup and I'm always on the hunt for the next best thing, ask any of my friends, they will tell you this about me. Every time I stray from Amazing Concealer, I always find my way back to this amazing little tube. I did a movie about 7 years ago and the makeup artist introduced me to it. My sister and mother both fell in love with it when I shared it with them and still use it as well. I use the color medium beige. There has never been an under eye concealer I have loved more. Use it sparingly because a little is all you need I promises. This little tube goes a very very long way. Happy Shopping! Check back for more gift ideas later in the week!

Happy Tom's Feet

vanessa evigan

Happy belated Thanksgiving friends. Are you still full from all that stuffing and turkey? They sure do it right in the South. My belly is still full from all the food.

Well, it's time to say goodbye to the pumpkins and hello to the mistletoe! I'm so excited for the holidays. This is truly my favorite time of year. A dear friend of my husband and I gave us Tom's slippers a week ago and my feet have honestly never been happier. I'm not kidding with youwhen I say my feel are living on a cloud.  I slid my feet into these slippers and Ifelt like my feet understood what a slice of heaven must feel like. If I am totally honest, I haven't taken them off unless I have had to get dressed up to go out. I have been wearing them out shopping too. They are so wonderful. I had never owned a pair of Tom's before and I tell you that changes now! I highly recommend you pick up a pair of these for yourself. They make wonderful gifts as well. The cause behind Tom's is another reason I love this company so much. Tom's supplies Shoes, clean water, eye care, and so much more to children and people all over the world. I strongly suggest reading their story if you don't already know what they are doing to make our world a better place.  Visit them and find out more about this wonderful company. I am wearing the red and black plaid Woman's house slippers. A little tip, they only do whole sizes in this slipper. I normally wear between a9 and 9 1/2 depending on the shoe, so I went up to a 10 to be safe and they are a little big. The slippers runs on the bigger side so my next pair will be a 9! Happy Sunday!

Wedding Hair

vanessa evigan

Finding a hair style for your wedding can be real tricky. You will be looking at your wedding pictures for the rest of your life, and don't want to have regrets when the pictures come back and you think of all the other styles you wish you would have picked. I had a few small things to keep in consideration when picking a style. The tattoo dilemma. I have a tattoo on my neck that sadly I don't like at all. I wanted to hide it without having to use makeup. Then I had to deal with a small, not so terrible issue of having long hair, and trying to keep the back of my dress exposed but still hiding the permanent mistake on my neck. (Think long and hard before getting a tattoo friends)

Thankfully my sister-in-law Victoria Evigan, who is a master at hair & makup, was able to create this beautiful and romantic look for me. It's soft curly waves with flowers and a sorta messy pulled together look felt perfect for my personality and the dress. I had shown Victoria a picture of something I liked and she hit it on the nose. We didn't even do a trial run which at first I was a little worried about but living in Nashville and Victoria in Los Angeles, a trial was nearly impossible.  The day of the wedding, she sat me in her chair and started working her magic. I had confidence in her from the start and was so excited and blown away by how she knew exactly what do do. When she finished, I was almost in tears I was so happy. Then she started my makeup! We went for a light, natural look with a light smokey eye. Once my makeup was on I finally felt like the bride. It was a wonderful experience and a beautiful day. If you are in need of someone to do your hair and makeup for your wedding I strongly suggest Victoria and not just because she's my sister-in-law, because she is fun and loving and will create what you are dreaming up and maybe even better! Check out her new hair Instagram page for bookings @Victoriaeviganhair

Fall Is Here!

vanessa evigan

I use to think summer was my favorite time of the year.... check back with me when we are in the middle of winter and it probably will be, but living in Nashville now where we have seasons, fall has become my new favorite. I love the colors of the trees, the crisp air, sipping my coffee on the porch and reflecting on where I am in life, and wearing cozy sweaters and long beautiful tunics of course. These pants I have on are so fun and can be worn during the day with a cute casual tunic and a wedge like I have on, or at night with a fabulous heel and a dressier Tunic. These pants are from a company called Nightcap Clothing and I am currently living in them! Do keep in mind that they are not pants that you can wear with anything shorter than what I have on, or you will be showing a tad too much for my taste! I have these pants in white and maroon and am in love. I wore the white pants to one of my showers with a pretty long white tunic from Carly Jean, and this maroon tunic I am wearing is from Lush and I got it at Nordstrom.  Nordstrom has revamped and is not longer carrying this top but they have something similar. The back in the picture below is just like the back on mine!

I'm loving the idea of wearing these lace pants through fall and even into winter as long as you have a boot on and a cozy sweater! Hey, we wear dresses in the winter... why not sexy lacy pants!

Lovely Day with Lovely Bird

vanessa evigan

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Yesterday I was in my happy place, shopping at antique stores searching for treasures to make jewelry and ended up with a trunk full of cool antiques to use as displays for my studio and the shop! I was certainly feeling inspired again. The last few weeks have been really busy and I haven't had much time to write, but I feel inspired again and have been doing some online shopping and wanted to share some new favorites.

If you are anything like me, finding a hat can be tricky. Most hats I walk past look adorable.... until I put them on and realize they don't work with my shape face. I have been known to buy a hat or two that I loved, that didn't love me as much. They make great displays but waste my money. That is certainly not the case with Lovely Bird hats. This is a company that can be dangerous for me since pretty much every hat looks good on. I have a few Lovely Bird hats and felt it was time to add to my collection. I purchased this gorgeous Buenos Aires Fedora in Heathered Brown and the best part, it was on sale! I needed a hat that really covered me from the sun but still looked cute and this hat is perfect. I have a very different shape face from the beautiful model in the picture above, so you can see that these hats look great on just about anyone. I added a few hats that are currently on my "need to purchase" list. The designer behind Lovely Bird is such a wonderful woman. I had the pleasure of knowing her when we were growing up and she was always someone I looked up to because she had such a great style and she was always so kind. Designer Jamie Haskell started working in the fashion industry 15 years ago. She dabbled in everything from retail to design and took her love for textiles into this beautiful line of hats. Inspired by her travels all over the world, you will find each style hat has a totally different vibe. Head over to her store for a list of retailers or buy on line and snag one now!

The rest of my outfit comes fromNordstrom, Free People, and Two Old Hippies! My boots are Two Old Hippies, my boho bag is from Free People, and my tunic is from Brass Plum at Nordstrom.

Bridal Gift Ideas!

vanessa evigan

Hello Friday! I'm sure y'all are as excited as I am for the weekend! I'm going to plop myself by a pool and try and cool off. Lot's of fun and exciting things happening here with the wedding planning. I have also been feeling a bit overwhelmed and anxious.  I was sitting here this morning sipping my coffee, reflecting on the last week. I spent the week back in my home town of Los Angeles with my family and some of my bridesmaids doing a little wedding dress shopping! As I was sitting here reading this cute little book "Stuff Every Bride Should Know" I become flooded with gratitude and then lots of tears came pouring in. I'm so thankful for the friends in my life and family, who have been there for me through everything. This is a very special time in a girls life. I won't lie when I say I have been dreaming up this day since I was thirteen years old and now many years later, it's actually really here. It doesn't feel completely real yet, I hear the vows are when it feels the most real. While dress shopping with my girls in LA, a few of my bridesmaids gave me the sweetest gifts and I wanted to share them with you. I'm always on the hunt for cute gift ideas. These ring dishes are adorable and such great gifts, not only for bridal gifts but for any special person on any special occasion . The Mr & Mrs dish comes from East Of India, and the Love dish comes from Rosanna Inc. Love is spelled backwards on mine, I don't think it's suppose to be like that, but I love that it is flawed because so am I. Both these sites have lots of fun options for all different kinds of gift ideas. The cute little Bride book is by Michelle Park Lazette and can be found at Quirkbooks.com ! I also wanted to give you a quick peek into the first day dress shopping with my mom, sister, and bridesmaids. We started at Grace Loves Lace which newly opened up on Abbot Kinney. They are an Australian based company with some of the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen. As much as I loved them, I ended up going with a more formal gown that comes from Italy. Which was fitting since I'm half Italian. I will post about the dress I found after the wedding! Grace Loves Lace was always my place where I thought I would find my dress and had I been getting married with my feet in the sand on a beach somewhere, I probably would have choose the "Vida" gown which I had fallen in love with. I wanted to show you a sneak peak at one of the dresses that was so fun and something I never would get married in but would wear to my shower! I may go back and snag it for the Los Angeles shower if the budget allows it.

I hope these ideas were helpful for you if you're on the hunt for cute gifts! Click the buttons below to visit all of the goodies mentioned in this post! Have a fun and safe weekend. xo

It's Been A Carly Jean Week!

vanessa evigan

Well hello Thursday!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week. Gearing up for the weekend. We are about to take a nice little getaway trip and I'm finding that everywhere I go in the North, South, East, and West is HOT. Which means every time I go inside somewhere the air is pumping and I tend to freeze.

Some of you probably saw that Carly Jean and I teamed up last weekend for a fun giveaway. This black basic and grey basic I'm wearing in these shots were two of the giveaway items. They are amazing must haves... I have been living in mine. I love the long length in the back and how it's shorter in the front. I'm big on layers and these are great for that since they are long in the back, you still see the back peek out. Now to solve the indoor freezing issue during summer. Every time I go into a restaurant or store during the summer, I freeze my buns off. So I'm loving this long denim cover up. It's just the right amount of warmth so you don't look like your going into a snow storm in the middle of summer and it does the perfect job of cute layering. It is SO soft I can't even tell you. You probably will have to get one to believe me. I promises you will love it. It's so flattering and looks great on. Perfect if you're going casual or want to throw on a pair of heels or a wedge do dress it up a bit. The wedges I'm wearing are Guess and I got them on sale at DSW Shoe Warehouse!  I found these boots a while back. They are by a company called Charlie 1 Horse but sadly it looks like they are not making this style anymore but I bet come Fall, we can find something like them! The glasses and hat are also from Carly Jean's shop and today she is having a sale so be sure to use the code PREPOP for 20% off your entire online order! Happy Shopping!

A Beach Room For The South

vanessa evigan

Well hello Tuesday! It's been a while.

Hope y'allhave recovered from a fantastic 4th Of July holiday! I'm excited to share with you my newest guest room I finally finished. I had the family out for the holiday and needed all the rooms ready to go!

Living with dogs is the greatest thing in the world, except you can't have a white bedroom. Being from Los Angeles and loving the beachy feel, I have really missed my white bedroom. I decided to do a white, simple, beach feel for one of our guest rooms to keep a part of LA with me here in the South. My budget was not huge but I wanted to make it really cozy and relaxing for my family and friends when they visit. I think the bed cost more than the whole room to furnish but I needed a very firm high quality bed for my family members with back issues. I also secretly want them to love the room more than their own so they will come visit more often! So I went with an extra firm beauty rest mattress. That's boring though... Let's get to the fun stuff now. Mixing a few high end items with affordable is the way I went. With some help from my amazing soon to be mother-in-law, together we found a headboard from West Elm that happened to be on sale!

All the sheets and duvet comforter came from Bed Bath and Beyond. I went to Peacock Alley for my duvet cover and three of the pillows you see (two long and one large middle sham). That was the splurge. I found the large accent pillow with writing on it, and the two back large shams at TJ Maxx HomeGoods. I also found the white beautiful blanket that I am using under the duvet for texture there. The white throw, light fixtures, and decor on the furniture is also from Home Goods. Can you tell I love HomeGoods? My white end tables I found at an awesome furniture store called Nadeau. All their furniture is hand made and imported from India and Indonesia. I wanted to add a little bit of color but keep it natural and subtle so I went to a local florist shop and bought a really affordable branch of cotton that I put in a white vase held upright by tons of cotton balls in the vase! Cotton branches are fantastic because they never die and add something fun and unique to the room! The heart driftwood is from our shop at Onsite and so is the Amazing Grace wall art. I hope you enjoyed this little breakdown of the new white room and I hope this info was helpful for you if you're working on a room or wanting to give one of your current bedrooms a makeover!

Perfect Fathers Day Gift

vanessa evigan

Hello friends! With Father's Day approaching, some of you may be a lot like me, at a total loss of ideas for gifts. You may not live in the same city or state as your father and want to send something that is simple but you know he will use. I'm always looking to find something my dad will use but there are only so many tools I can give the man. I think I have found the solution this year with Related Garments!

My life long friend Mike Appel, who I use to ride the bus to middle school with, started this awesome line with his brother David. He sent me some of these bad boys and my soon to be husband got very excited when he opened the package. Not only do the underwear look great, they feel even better and trust me my hubs is picky when it comes to his boxer briefs.

My favorite thing about Related Garments, is they offer a few different packages with different colors and patterns. The best part about this line is not only do you receive your boxer briefs, they send you matching socks and not just one pair of socks TWO pairs of socks, high cut and low cut!! Don't worry, if you don't want to order lots of boxers, you can order your boxer briefs individually but they still come with two pairs of matching socks!!  I'm sold!

I love these guys and love the line they have created. I will be sleeping in a pair too, if I can steal them away from my hubs. Get yours today for your father or husband!!!!

Affordable & Cute

vanessa evigan

Happy Friday!! The last two weeks have been crazy and I haven't been on line much. I recently got engaged so I have been on a cloud. I recently fell off the cloud (not really) and have come back to reality.

So, I'm back to shopping and blogging about it! I can always count on Francesca's and Irene's Story for affordable, adorable clothing. I'm trying to remember the last time I visited them and left empty handed.... um, never. Usually I leave with a full bag of clothes and never break the bank!

This white top is a wonderful basic that Francesca's always carries. They come in all colors and patterns year round and are under 30 bucks! My Kimono is great for dress up or wearing over a bikini this summer and you can find one like it at Irene's Story! Jeans are Paige Denim and shoes are Paul Green. Shoes and jeans are not budget friendly but they are fantastic and very durable so you will have them for a long time! Worth the splurge. The jewelry I'm wearing is handmade by yours truly and if you are interested in a one-of-a-kind piece, you can contact me through email!

Have a beautiful weekend friends!

Our Bedroom!

vanessa evigan

Well hello! I'm so excited to give you a peek into our new bedroom. The last few weeks have felt like a tornado passed through our lives during the move but we are finally settling down and I'm feeling inspired again.  A few days ago I posted a style pic in our bedroom with our bed in the background and received a lot of inquires about our bedding so I wanted to share some details.

We were so lucky to meet a designer who happened to be the person who sold us our new home and we worked with him on the whole house so I can not take full credit. His name is Branan White and he is wonderful and beyond talented. I had always wanted a grand mantel as a headboard. Branan found us this awesome old vintage fireplace mantel that is a distressed white and fits perfect with the bedding and colors of the room.

The bedding is my absolute favorite. It's from a company called Pom Pom at Home and it's true luxury. I have always been a Restoration Hardware kinda girl until we found out about Pom Pom at Home. We have a lot of blankets and duvet covers that end up off the bed at night time but oh my, when the bed is made up it is a dream to look at. We have the Alegra flax color duvet cover with a second duvet cover in the Charlie Sea Foam. A scrunched up throw lays between our pillows and our duvets. All our pillow shams are down to give that fluffy feeling and we have several colors and patterns to add texture to the bed. Click the link below to find out how to get your hands on Pom Pom at Home and to find out more about Branan White Designs.

Mix it up

vanessa evigan

We have finally settled down after moving and I feel inspired to get dressed again now that my closet is up and running!  I can't believe it's already May. I'm not complaining though! The weather is getting warmer and so is my heart.

I struggle with the classic business look but feel like my style can seem a tad too grungy for a business meeting. Most of the time business outfits feel so stuffy to me, so I've been playing with the idea of mixing business with bohemian pieces. This was what I put together for today. I took a cute pair of ankle length trousers (I found mine at Nordstrom rack) and mixed them with a classy top that has a touch of flow to it. The one I have on is one of my favorite basics from Francesca's. They have totally mastered this top. I have them in all different colors and prints, they are very affordable, and so flattering on. If you want to go real business put on a blazer, but I'm changing it up and throwing on a long kimono coverup that I found at M. Fredric. Finishing the look off with a pair of Via Spiga heels. This look feels classy but still has my bohemian fare to it. I would love to see how you mix business up with your own personal style! Please feel free to share your ideas with me!! Have a great day!

It's In The Bag!

vanessa evigan

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a fantastic morning and that this weekend has been one of rest and recovery! It has been over here for sure. While I was out yesterday enjoying the day with one of our dogs Dakota, (shown in the picture above) we stumbled upon a great little outdoor festival that was happening on the streets of Nashville. I ended up leaving with this beautiful leather tote bag. One of the main reasons I bought the bag, is the story behind the company. You can read more in detail about them and shop their incredible store by clicking the link below but to sum it up real quick, Fashionable Local & Global, provides jobs for woman. I love that not only does this company help woman in other countries, they are also helping woman in our own country too!

Another exciting thing that happened. My new Day Designer came in on Friday and I can hardly wait for Monday to come so I can start using it! I went with the Mini this time and I'm so happy I did! This bad boy fits in almost all my bags.... yes I tried them all. Side note, I have nice size bags so if you are living life wearing a clutch, this will not fit in a clutch! Anyway,  this is my absolute favorite daily planner I have found and I won't be using another one any time soon. Check out the Daily Designer below and get yourself one today!
